Singapore Flamenco Festival 2019

Singapore Flamenco Festival 2019 returns with 10 days of power packed performances, inspiring workshops and engaging open forums. Watch talented artists, immerse in exciting multi-cultural collaborations and learn to dance this fascinating art form.

Themed ‘VOCES’ or voices, the Singapore Flamenco Festival 2019 is back for the sixth year, aiming to provide a powerful voice for pressing social issues through THE HOUSE, an original flamenco production that explores suppression - of women, of freedom and of individual needs versus societal expectations.

The festival is a platform that connects and builds cultural bridges. This year it brings together artists from Spain, Japan, Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore in FLAMENCASIAN, as it voices their collective expressions in a brand-new collaboration across multiple cultures and genres.

The festival fosters some of the brightest talent in South East Asia. In line with this year’s theme, it will voice these artists up close and personal through interactive workshops and forums conducted by the artists.

Flamenco, more so than many other dance/art forms, is a sincere communication of one’s emotions and feelings through the synergy of guitar, voice and dance.

Come and enjoy the soulful synergy that will stimulate and entertain you!

The key festival highlights:

[29 Nov - 1 Dec] THE HOUSE

The House is a Flamenco dance theatre adaptation of the famous Spanish playwright Federico Lorca’s work, which has been hailed as a masterpiece of European theatre. It spins a tale of the matriarch Bernarda Alba and her grip over her five daughters – of the drama behind inherited wealth, that unleashed a series of events that ends with the youngest daughter Adela’s suicide. This work sees the exciting collaboration of two veteran directors, Flamenco maestro ANTONIO VARGAS, and acclaimed Theatre director CLAIRE WONG of Check Point Theatre, drawing out the individual characters entangled in a complex web of family intrigue to create a poignant and powerful story of love and betrayal.
